Camp Super Breathers
Residential Camp
August 9 - 13 at the YMCA camp ground, Horsethief Reservoir near Cascade, ID.
NOT JUST A REGULAR CAMP
Our 4 night, 5 day residential camp provides kids ages 8 to 17 the opportunity to experience camping activities in a medically-supervised environment. Through educational activities, campers learn to understand and manage their asthma while improving their self-esteem.
OBJECTIVES
Counselors and medical staff continue to reinforce the objectives of the American Lung Association Education Programs:
- To educate the parent, child, and community about asthma and how to deal with it
- To improve self-management skills
- To improve the physical condition and psychological outlook of the child
MEDICAL STAFF
Camp Super Breather's is staffed 24 hours a day by physicians, registered nurses and respiratory therapists in order to meet the special needs of the campers. Campers are evaluated by their assigned nurse on a daily basis with peak flow measurements done twice a day.
ACTIVITIES
Trained counselors, assisted by medical staff, supervise the children and encourage participation in a variety of activities, such as swimming, biking, nature hikes, field games and arts and crafts. In addition to traditional camping activities, children attend educational sessions, during which they learn asthma management techniques.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
In order to help children in Idaho with asthma, our policy is to not refuse any child because of an inability to pay.
In order to cover camps costs we are seeking individuals and organizations to help fund camp. If you would like to support camp, please make a donation today.
